Summer's Best Kept Secrets

September 3, 2009 @ 5:00 pm

Just because summer is technically over this weekend, the weather will still be friendly for the next few months. You still have time to bask in the sun and drink all day and night. Just because your summer share is over, doesn’t mean the party has to end….here are two places that will help you keep it goin.

Suffolk Beach:
City beaches aka fake beaches were all the rage this summer, but The Suffolk is a little guy noone really knows about. New York Mag says, ” The Suffolk is a neighborhood bar, a performance space, and a mini-urban-beach all rolled into one…Beach—owner Drew Figueroa poured a truckload of sand onto the open space in the back of the bar and threw in blue-lined beach chairs, tiki torches, a couple of Lacoste beach towels, and a barbecue to top it off. The place might be a little deserted on weekdays, but come weekends, locals can be seen grilling patties on the barbecue, enjoying cheap beer, and doing their best to ignore the adjoining parking lot. Friday and Saturday nights, local bands perform in the space for no cover.”

Berry Park:

There is nothing I like more than a little Sunday Funday beer garden fun, except when that fun lies in my neighborhood. Berry Park opened earlier this month and is giving Radegast Hall & Beer Garden a run for its money. Why? You ask… well this beer garden doesn’t have a measly retractable roof. It actually has a roof deck! Yeah… that’s right… you heard me… a roof deck. This indoor-outdoor beer haven has over 15 beers on tap, a huge screen for movies, sporting events, and that old school drinking in your friends barn type feel. Oh… you never had a friend with a barn and snuck cases of Bud Light back there as a teen… man you missed out.
