Tenjune Unveils Renovations with This Is Music

February 25, 2011 @ 6:43 pm

Thursday night I decided to hit up the This is Music event at Tenjune hosted by Moodswing 360 and Stadium Red. The Chainsmokers and Jason Smith were on deck with a special performance by Roxy Cottontail, so if anything I knew the music would be on point. Aside from that, I was really anxious to check out the rumored $400,000 makeover the club just received and this was the first night of the three day unveiling.  Let me just say that owners Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum (SL, Abe and Arthur) did not disappoint. It’s still the old Tenjune that we all know and love (?), but it’s got a fresh new vibe. As you make your way down the staircase, you’ll notice that the newspaper articles and pictures are long gone and that pieces of overlapping planks of wood line the ceiling.

They didn’t mess with the horseshoe shaped layout of the club but they did add this hot, new wall feature that wraps around the room featuring images of gorillas, lions, airplanes, and half naked women. It definitely sets a sexier, animalistic tone to the space, and it’s illuminated in an orange/reddish color (PS Anyone remember club Imperial?) They’ve also included a ton of LED lighting, making the dance floor and walls light up and glow.

It’s hard to believe that the club will hit its five year mark come August, and honestly props to them for staying in the game this long. Manhattan nightlife is cruel and too many clubs barely see the light of day before it’s on to the next one. Fabolous is set to wrap up the three day bash with a performance tonight and a kickoff of what I can only suspect to be another crazy five years.

TOMORROW // A-Trak and Lavo: Friday Night Fashion Show After-Party

February 10, 2011 @ 6:28 pm

A-Trak_Lavo_PartyFlyerI only know of two good things that have ever been birthed in Montreal, Canada. The first is poutine. The second would have to be A-Trak.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, the Canadian who brought you Fool’s Gold and Barbra Streisand (yes, he created her) is about to destroy your Friday Night (and any Saturday morning plans) at Lavo Nightclub for a “fashion show after-party”. What fashion show? I don’t know. I don’t really care. But what I do know is that I’m looking forward to seeing the impending collision of dirty south gangster, Brooklyn hipster, and cocaine-fueled model types. Bitches, you can leave your Louboutins at home and grab your dunks (or Keds Classics, if you live in Brooklyn) cuz it’s about to get real grimey up at Lavo.

Just Your Average Wednesday Night: CV, Darkroom, Lit

@ 5:12 pm

Wednesday night are back and more badass then ever.  As you know, your truly has been hosting at CV for the past three Wednesdays.  Well this past Wed. in particular things got a little out of hand. I don’t know if it the pinatas stuffed with party favors, or the straight up 90′s dance party, that got people going – but shit got a little crazy.  The night started off kind of chill – then it was pinata time.  The first pinata get cracked up, once people saw what was inside all hell broke loose.  People were diving on the floor, scavenging to pick up the pieces.  Then we cracked open the second one.  I almost got trampled but it was all worth it – to see the excitement on people’s faces and the overall hilarity of it all.  I can’t exactly say what was in the pinatas BUT I can say once all the goodies were out -  a silly string fight broke out, someone got engaged, people ate, people wore costumes, and a lot of other fun things.  Then queue the 90′s music and we had a little dance party.  Fave songs of the night – Cruel Summer, Creep, No Scrubs, Pigeons, Crazy, ugh I can go on forever.  And the best part is – next week Kirill starts and all the insanity can be documented.  I am not sure how often the pinatas will take place, as they can be quite costly, but we will def be doing it again.  Get your ass to CV on Wednesdays – its like a house party at a lounge.

CV: 105 Rivington @ Ludlow

Around 2:30 we needed a little break from the craziness and walked over to Darkroom.  Believe or not – even though this place is so my scene – I have never been to Darkroom prior.  I really love the vibe in there and am looking forward to checking out Circa on Thursdays.  As we are walking there we run in to VHS or Beta, head in, took some shots of Jame-o and then all headed over to Lit.

Darkroom: 165 Ludlow nr. Stanton

Now I was at Lit on Tuesday night for Steve Lewis’s Bday (that post is en route, just waiting on pics,) and it was fun – a little low key I guess.  PS- The staff does not mess around when it comes to warning ladies to hold on to their belongs at ALL times.  I guess they have a hard core theft problem there.  I put my purse down on the bar for five minutes and got yelled at.  Anyways, we get there at around 3AM and it was a total different situation.  Packed to the brims, all sorts of EV/LES types, promoters, musicians, local celebrities -  quite the shitshow.  Apparently, everyone heads to Lit late night after their respected parties.  I made some new friends, did a few things I normally don’t do, and took some steamy pictures.  A wise person once said – live in the moment.

Lit Lounge: 93 2nd Ave nr. E5th St.
Although I wish I could share the nitty gritty details of how random and wild my night was, some things are better left unsaid and should never be read by my mom published. Fuck work and go out on Wednesday nights.  The stories you will have in the AM will outweigh your hangover.  Trust me.

Creep // TLC

No Scrubs // TLC (Yukon Ho Remix)

Feel It When You Know It // VHS or Beta (LA Riots Remix)
