Tenjune Unveils Renovations with This Is Music
Thursday night I decided to hit up the This is Music event at Tenjune hosted by Moodswing 360 and Stadium Red. The Chainsmokers and Jason Smith were on deck with a special performance by Roxy Cottontail, so if anything I knew the music would be on point. Aside from that, I was really anxious to check out the rumored $400,000 makeover the club just received and this was the first night of the three day unveiling. Let me just say that owners Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum (SL, Abe and Arthur) did not disappoint. It’s still the old Tenjune that we all know and love (?), but it’s got a fresh new vibe. As you make your way down the staircase, you’ll notice that the newspaper articles and pictures are long gone and that pieces of overlapping planks of wood line the ceiling.
They didn’t mess with the horseshoe shaped layout of the club but they did add this hot, new wall feature that wraps around the room featuring images of gorillas, lions, airplanes, and half naked women. It definitely sets a sexier, animalistic tone to the space, and it’s illuminated in an orange/reddish color (PS Anyone remember club Imperial?) They’ve also included a ton of LED lighting, making the dance floor and walls light up and glow.
It’s hard to believe that the club will hit its five year mark come August, and honestly props to them for staying in the game this long. Manhattan nightlife is cruel and too many clubs barely see the light of day before it’s on to the next one. Fabolous is set to wrap up the three day bash with a performance tonight and a kickoff of what I can only suspect to be another crazy five years.
