CULTURE // Degeneration X
The other day I had the honor of seeing a sneak peek of Degeneration X at Loft 910- an original multimedia theatrical experience which incorporates live performance, film, motion graphics, illustrations, and music to chronicle the different pockets of one man’s neurosystem.
AKA it’s part play, part film, and 100% amazing.
The tale follows a young man by he name of Xavier on his journey with a rare and visually stimulating syndrome. The play toggles between what’s reality and what’s a hallucination – giving it a ‘Donnie Darko’esque kinda vibe. As Xavier drives through his condition, the audience takes front seat on a surreal and rousing ride through the human mind. Degeneration X is put on by Perf Productions (Maria Aparo, Meredith Edwards, Leah Bachar, Lin Laurin.) Four ladies committed to changing the way live theatre has commonly been presented – twisting the framework in order to tell a tale while mixing technical elements for story enhancement.
Anyway, here’s the deal. The sneak preview I attended was not the full theatrical production, although there were some film elements presented, the play still has a long road ahead. And with that, these ladies needs some funds. THIS PLAY MUST HAPPEN. They are going to kill it.
Please donate to their Kickstarter page.
What your donation is for: securing a venue (debuting Fall 2011), film and rental equipment, rehearsal space, props, costumes, makeup, craft services, programs and promotional materials, stipends for our professional designers.
If dude from the play about coffee can reach his absurd goal, there is no reason why all of you people cannot donate like, $5, to this kickass play in which you will get to see for yourself come September.
