Fake It Until You Make It // My Six Words
A good friend >Corey Hanna< once told me, “Fake It Until You Make It.” In my eyes, words to live by. Pretty much going back to the cliche’ first impressions are everything, as well as appearance, those 6 little words seems to be 75% of New Yorker’s motto. Think about it. You go out to the club. Meet a potential. Dressed to impress. He says hes a “producer” or “investor” or an “actor” by night, “independent consultant” by day. Who the fuck knows. But what I do know is I bet 99.9% of this city’s large (yet so ironically) small population lies or elaborates about their current standings in life. Yeah… you know you do it too. Noone is judging you here.
But anywaysssssssss. A fellow recession chic brookynista is having a gallery show this weekend. Seasick Mama, a Brooklyn-based apparel company, will be presenting an exhibit called, Don’t Become The Things You Hate.
The press release reads, “in today’s contemporary recession, an industry that is struggling to survive is the print and magazine world. To reach out, Seasick Mama has asked almost a dozen magazines, bloggers, and other local favorites to express ‘how they survive’ during this difficult time..but in only six words.” Proceeds from the public’s support will benefit the pockets of the writers.
What’s hot is that this will be held in this very interesting thing called the Stand Alone Gallery, a dynamic adaptable exhibition space, which can be moved around and adjusted depending on the situation and artist. Below is an image I pulled off their Facebook.
