Resto Report: CupcakeStop opens Flagship Store

December 16, 2010 @ 10:59 am

Ever since Carrie Bradshaw and the ladies of Sex And The City enjoyed cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, these personal sized sweet treats have become the must-have pastry in NYC.

With cupcake focused bakeries popping up all over Manhattan, it’s hard to try them all, but easy to declare your favorite shop. The competition is fierce, so customers are looking for something different; whether it’s bite-sized mini cupcakes, eccentric flavors, or a convenient dessert truck. The food truck trend was going strong in the city when Lev Ekster founded CupcakeStop, a mobile cupcake shop business in May of 2009. He hit the streets with one truck, and grew a following on Twitter and Facebook. His social media popularity led to a second truck, a home inside Limelight Marketplace, and a CupcakeStop bakery in Montclair, NJ.

On December 15th (coincidentally National Cupcake Day), the 26-year-old entrepreneur opened his Flagship NYC store at 70 Greenwhich Ave. The ambiance of the bakery is warm and cozy, with blue and white striped hand painted walls, treated hanging lights, and aged wooden tables. Ekster’s in store menu has been expanded from the cupcakes available on his touring trucks. The cupcake flavors rotate daily, from the ever-popular Red Velvet, to Chocolate Oreo Crumb, to Boston Cream. A variety of cookies, including Oatmeal Raisin, and muffins are available daily at the shop. Mouthwatering oversized brownies and blondies are also displayed in the shiny glass case of sweets. Illy coffee and espresso is sold to enjoy with your sugary indulgence.

Ekster is now offering overnight FedEx deliveries for his menu of desserts. The cupcakes and pastries will arrive cold, but not frozen. Ekster was featured on The Food Network where CupcakeStop was named best cupcake on Food Feuds.

So when you’re bored in the long touristy line at Magnolia walk a few blocks down to CupcakeStop to satisfy your never-ending sweet tooth.
