Artist On The Rise: Darling Cait

December 3, 2009 @ 11:02 pm

Although Darling Cait is a good friend of mine, her talent and unique sound cannot be denied.  Darling Cait  has been building momentum in the New York City indie music scene, establishing a bi-monthly residency at Ella Lounge on Wednesdays (pre Nicky D and the boys.)  DC has the sound of your favorite old fashioned songstress from the 1940s with the best elements of today’s pop sound.  Known for her eclectic mix of various music genres -  Classical, R&B, Pop, Soul, Spoken Word, and Jazz – Darling Cait stands out amongst the crowd as a truly one of a kind act.  With Dita Von Teese looks  and a classic fairy tale princess sound, Darling Cait is cute as a button and her sense of humor makes her shows that much more enjoyable.  Last night was no exception, as Cait had the crowd rolling with her quirky jokes, spoken word version of ‘Ice Ice Baby’ and my personal fav – a melodic rendition of ‘Dominic The Donkey‘ in lieu of the holidays.    Backed by David Underwood, Dave Macarone, and John McGloin playing toy (as in legit toys) instruments and Ian McGlynn accompanying her on the piano, last’s nights performance was one to remember.

Be on the look out for Darling Cait – and artist on the rise.

And PS: you really have to be fantastic to make Dominic The Donkey sound classy.  Let’s be real folks…
