ART// Playboy at Partners & Spade
I know Playboy in it’s modern sense doesn’t exactly exude class and style, but you’ll be surprised by the sex appeal and old school charm of this retrospective at hip gallery Partners & Spade in the East Village. A refreshing reminder of some of the roots of female sexuality in American pop culture, the prints on display are a refreshing change to the raunchy images that cover the internet today.
The Playboy Commission, with iconic members include Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava and Simon Doonan of Barneys – selected the images that are on display at P&S. The show include prints of iconic pin-ups and images from the magazine’s collaborations with contemporary artists on reinventions of the female nude including Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Frank Gallo, and Helmut Newton.
Only running through the end July, be sure not to miss it.
Besides, everyone loves some 70′s bush. Yes, I said it and will say it again. 70′s bush forever. Oh, and the gallery below is definitely NSFW. You’re welcome…
