Off blogger that is. Obvi still living up in the burg. I haven’t been blogging much because I’m straddled – almost literally – between two websites. I started this blog to ramble about my crazy life and promote my friends who are doing big things in this city – but now the Downtown Diva herself is blowin up and a hot new site is on the way. A whole NEW bigger and badder Downtown Diaries is coming soon – like really soon. Sit tight everyone, because Imma be coming back with something FRESHHHHH.

A few weeks back, my favorite song bird, Darling Cait invited me out to catch her friend
Joey Pero perform at the Metropolitan Room in Flatiron. Pero, a 29 year rising jazz trumpet sensation, recently released his debut album, Resonance, which has been receiving rave reviews. It’s been said, “throughout the CD, Pero displays virtuosity that puts him in an elite category, being compared by critics to trumpet greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Allen Vizzutti, and the late, great jazz trumpeter, Maynard Ferguson.” ( I am not going to lie, I have no effing clue who these people are but I am sure they are legendary!!!) And Allaboutjazz.com listed “Resonance” as one of their highest recommended CDs this year – so needless to say he is pretty legit.
Joey Pero
I heard great things about Joey Pero up until this point and I am not sure how I pictured jazz musicians to be, but it was not like Joey and his band. Pero was stylin’ and profilin’ in a white suite number with shiny gold sneakers – I consider him to be not your average trumpet player. The music was awesome and you could tell he was wickedly talented without even knowing his reputation or anything about jazz music. His band, pianist Jon Ware, bassist Jeff Little, drummer Pete Abazia, and special guest, marimba player, Simon Boyar were all pretty effing awesome as well. Oh… a marimba…what’s that you ask? The coolest fucking instrument of all time. It’s basically a xylophone on steroids and it’s the shit. It makes me happy and I want one.
These 5 boys rocked it and I am def looking forward to their next show. After the show we headed over to Baddies to have few cocktails and catch my friends Alex and Rhett from the Chainsmokers DJ. Only in NY can you go from a classy jazz show to an underground hipster bar all in one night.
Anyway friends- don’t you worry about missing out on all the fun because Joey and the boys will be playing at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency TONIGHT October 15th and TOMORROW the 16th. I recommend you go. Even if you don’t like Jazz music, I guarantee you will like Joey Pero.

For those of you unfamiliar with Broke-Ass Stuart, he’s been called “an SF cult hero” (SF Bay Guardian), “Best Local Writer” (SF Weekly) and “the Chief of Cheap” (Time Out NY), but to those familiar with his work, he’s just, “that douchebag who writes books about cheap stuff and drinks a lot”. In these times of economic crisis, Stuart has become an icon for the downtrodden by showing people not just how to survive through these dark days, but how to thrive in them and have a blast while doing so.
Originally known for his popular books, Broke-Ass Stuart’s Guide to Living Cheaply in San Francisco and New York, Stuart has spent the past year making his website Broke-Ass Stuart’s Goddamn Website (www.brokeassstuart.com) the best place on the web for the young, broke, and beautiful to find cheap and fun things to do.
So here’s the real question, how the fuck can you say “no” to this party?
