Vicio and Danielle Parente at Canal Room // Wednesday

September 21, 2009 @ 9:13 am

At this point you can tell who my friends are, and who are not… well actually, you probably can’t tell who I don’t like…yet.

But my favorite skinny-jean-wearin rockers are at it again. VICIO will be performing at the Canal Room this Wednesday with my new fav obsession Danielle Parente.

Danielle Parente is new on the scene and she fucking rocks.  She has that soulful sultry voice – kinda like an Estelle and Joss Stone wrapped in to one tiny lil package.

If you don’t know them, now you do.  See you at Canal.

Fake It Until You Make It // My Six Words

September 18, 2009 @ 3:00 pm

A good friend >Corey Hanna< once told me, “Fake It Until You Make It.” In my eyes, words to live by.  Pretty much going back to the cliche’ first impressions are everything, as well as appearance, those 6 little words seems to be 75% of New Yorker’s motto.  Think about it. You go out to the club.  Meet a potential. Dressed to impress. He says hes a “producer” or “investor” or an “actor” by night, “independent consultant” by day.  Who the fuck knows.  But what I do know is I bet 99.9% of this city’s large (yet so ironically) small population lies or elaborates about their current standings in life.  Yeah… you know you do it too.  Noone is judging you here.

But anywaysssssssss.  A fellow recession chic brookynista is having a gallery show this weekend.  Seasick Mama, a Brooklyn-based apparel company, will be presenting an exhibit called, Don’t Become The Things You Hate.

The press release reads, “in today’s contemporary recession, an industry that is struggling to survive is the print and magazine world. To reach out, Seasick Mama has asked almost a dozen magazines, bloggers, and other local favorites to express ‘how they survive’ during this difficult time..but in only six words.”  Proceeds from the public’s support will benefit the pockets of the writers.

What’s hot is that this will be held in this very interesting thing called the Stand Alone Gallery, a dynamic adaptable exhibition space, which can be moved around and adjusted depending on the situation and artist.  Below is an image I pulled off their Facebook.

Want More Fashion?

@ 1:42 am

Fashion Week is utterly exhausting.  Can I go on another day?

Fashion Week NYC may be coming to a halt but that does not mean all the glitz, glam, and after parties have to come to an end.

Presenting the Brooklyn Fashion Festival… because only Williamsburg get’s their own. According to the site, Brooklyn Fashion Festival is a two-day event which will feature a collective of emerging designers showcasing their latest work each night with live music and performance art in the heart of Brooklyn’s music scene.

Come “see something different”  – because not seeing something different was actually a question….

Ready for the Weekend…..

September 12, 2009 @ 11:00 am

So I have been mad weak on my blogger game the past week. I went to Jamaica (if you ever go – stay at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites) and as soon as I got back it was time to kick of NYC Fashion Week/ VMA Weekend.

I got back Wednesday, and Thursday night I headed to Theory, Catherine Malandrino, and Tory Burch for Fashion Night Out. The night was sick – everything from the martinis at Malandrino to the Black Tea cocktails at Theory.

After a quick food break at STK, we headed back to the burg to dance my ass off for Calvin Harris at Williamsburg Hall of Music.

Calvin Harris a is a Scottish DJ, singer-songwriter and record producer best known for his debut album, I Created Disco – Peep his music below.

Fashion's Night Out // Sept 10th 6-11PM

September 4, 2009 @ 11:27 am

Next Thursday marks a very important day for fashionistas worldwide. It is the first day of New York Fashion Week in which thousands of designers, models, magazine editors, and celebrities flood the city for the love of fashion and fun. However, this year, fashion designers and party planners are scaling back a bit, keeping things a little more low key than they would normally, due to this shitty ass economy.

In an effort to promote the retail industry, fashion, and bring some excitement back in to the lives of shopaholics, Anna Wintour, the queen of fashion herself, her global team, and the CFDA, organized a “Fashion Night Out” to kick off New York Fashion Week. Thirteen other fashion capitals around the globe will unite and take part in this monumental occasion set for September 10th.

Here in NY, over 700 retailers and designers are participating; throwing special in-house events and will be open late to encourage shopping. Expect celebrity appearances, musical performances, stylists, makeovers, champagne, fancy foods, you name it.

Next only to finance, fashion is the second-largest sector of industry in New York City—the headquarters of more than 800 fashion companies employing 175,000 people and generating $10 billion in total wages. FNO’s goal is to create engaging and entertaining incentives to inspire consumers and invigorate the economy and local industry. We will see if it works!!! This also gives you a reason to shop and not feel guilty about it… All proceeds from the “official” T will be donated to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

I will be at the Theory soiree…meatpacking is sure to be on fiyahh that night.

Summer's Best Kept Secrets

September 3, 2009 @ 5:00 pm

Just because summer is technically over this weekend, the weather will still be friendly for the next few months. You still have time to bask in the sun and drink all day and night. Just because your summer share is over, doesn’t mean the party has to end….here are two places that will help you keep it goin.

Suffolk Beach:
City beaches aka fake beaches were all the rage this summer, but The Suffolk is a little guy noone really knows about. New York Mag says, ” The Suffolk is a neighborhood bar, a performance space, and a mini-urban-beach all rolled into one…Beach—owner Drew Figueroa poured a truckload of sand onto the open space in the back of the bar and threw in blue-lined beach chairs, tiki torches, a couple of Lacoste beach towels, and a barbecue to top it off. The place might be a little deserted on weekdays, but come weekends, locals can be seen grilling patties on the barbecue, enjoying cheap beer, and doing their best to ignore the adjoining parking lot. Friday and Saturday nights, local bands perform in the space for no cover.”

Berry Park:

There is nothing I like more than a little Sunday Funday beer garden fun, except when that fun lies in my neighborhood. Berry Park opened earlier this month and is giving Radegast Hall & Beer Garden a run for its money. Why? You ask… well this beer garden doesn’t have a measly retractable roof. It actually has a roof deck! Yeah… that’s right… you heard me… a roof deck. This indoor-outdoor beer haven has over 15 beers on tap, a huge screen for movies, sporting events, and that old school drinking in your friends barn type feel. Oh… you never had a friend with a barn and snuck cases of Bud Light back there as a teen… man you missed out.
