A New DtD coming soon
Hey all….
I know I haven’t been up on my blog game recently – and that is because I am moving over to wordpress and building my new site. Just wanted to keep you in the loop.
Hey all….
I know I haven’t been up on my blog game recently – and that is because I am moving over to wordpress and building my new site. Just wanted to keep you in the loop.
This weekend was probably the biggest Brooklyn loves Electro weekend to hit the scene.

First let me take it back to BEMF. Although I missed 90% of the insanity… I rolled up around 2AM just in time to see my friend Brion’s band, Euro sensation, 33hz. The scene was legit. SMD and Boize Noize were chillin in the Artist Lounge when I got there. The over all vibe of the party was “very Berlin,” as my friend put it. It was a huge indoor/outdoor party, people going crazy, dancing everywhere, totally not giving a fuck. I also haven’t seen that many people rolling face sine my raver days back in 2000, by time I got there it was like one big game of seven minutes in heaven, I think I actually saw one couple licking each other. But anyways…just as 33hz was about to go on it started to rain… go figure. The crowd started cheering as it was a much needed cool down for the soldiers who were rocking out for 10 hours at that point. All the sudden it stopped and 33hz kicked off their set with I Feel Alive. If you haven’t checked out this band yet, I recommend you Google/ MySpace/ HypeM that shit.

Check out Nicky Digitals Pics. They are much much much better than mine.
On to Sunday’s festivities…I rolled up to the Waterfront Park and was shocked that there was NO LINE at the gates. It was nothing short of a miracle, people must of been scurred of the rain and they also must be kicking themselves in the ass now because it didn’t rain. Miracle #2. I made my way to the 21+ pen and there was also NO LINE for BEER (Miracle #3.) I met up with my girl Sheen Beaston and we headed in to the concert zone for prime spots aka dead center at the foot of the stage, directly in front of a speaker. Finger on the Pulse DJs – who are the most dooker DJs ever – came back on and got the crowd hyped the F up. The best part about FOTP, besides their great music, is that they take turns DJing, and while one is DJing, the other dances in the middle of the stage and it just cracks me up. At one point they picked up the speakers and were dancing with them. And then… Simian Mobile Disco take the stage, the clouds lift from the sky, the sun peeks out from the clouds, the crowd goes crazy and then the BASS kicks in. Now, I have never, ever, in my life, felt bass penetrate through my body as I did on Sunday. I felt like that guy in the old commercial where he was sitting in a chair in front of a speaker and was getting blown away… yeah.. remember that? that’s how I felt. I had to relocate because the feeling of my heart and lungs vibrating was not a good one, and I needed more room to dance. I met up with my friend and continued the dance party. SMD is the SICKEST most ULTIMATE DJs to see live. Period. Their performance yesterday at East River State Park was epic. SMD, more so then other DJs I have seen live, truly know how to build up momentum with their music, they tell a story, get the crowd going, and then drop the beat at the most perfect time. At one point they were phasing the music out, I almost thought the set was over and then they just dropped that shit. My friends and I almost lost it because we couldn’t get over how sick they are. I am extremely happy I was there yesterday and got to be a part of that concert. Everyone was dancing their ass off, dancing with each other, and was so in to the music. The overall vibe was so peaceful and fun, everyone was just there for the music and to dance. As the set was finishing up the sun was setting right over the Manhattan skyline. SMD and FOTP actually tried to pull down the black curtain behind the stage so they could play with the sun setting behind them but it was a no go. It was a beautiful end to a beautiful day. As the crowded cleared the park, everyone was talking about how SMD absolutely KILLED it. If I could do that every weekend I would be a very happy woman.

A new beer garden is upon us – and this time you don’t have to leave your beloved borough of Manhattan to get to it. The Standard Beer Garden – yes, as in the new Standard Hotel slash Bar and Grill, below the Highline – is now open(kinda.) You are more than welcome to go but as of now its only bottled beer. Draft beer and wieners are coming soon – as well as table side keg service. The Standard Beer Garden comes complete with ping pong tables, although there are signs that the playing of ‘beer pong’ is forbidden,. But we all know rules are meant to be broken.

For all you crazy ex-ravers out there who have been looking for a good excuse to bust out your glow sticks, UFOs, and best moves, the time has come. The British remixers/ DJs/ producers/ dynamic duo/ electro gods Simian Mobile Disco will be performing this Sunday at Williamsburg’s East River State Park. Their last show around these parts was at the Museum of Natural History for One Step Beyond (see picture above) and it was pretty insane. I haven’t been this excited since…well, I can’t exactly remember, but I am pretty fucking stoked.
This Sunday’s performance comes on the heels of their new album, Temporary Pleasure, which features The Gossip’s Beth Ditto and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, and is slated to hit stores August 17th. For this Sunday’s indie electro dance party shit show, Simian Mobile Disco will be joined on stage by Fiery Furnaces, Dark Meat, The Netherlands, and Brooklyn’s own Finger on the Pulse DJs. Holla at your daytime rave, yo.
When in doubt, fist pump it out.

The exclusive Lower East Side haven for debauchery, The Box, has been deemed ‘over’ by a few sources; however I am here to report it is still alive and well. Continuing the week’s Birthday celebration, we had an action packed Saturday night ahead of us. We kicked off our night with dinner at Minetta Tavern, this time Ellen Barkin was seated next to us. The food was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. I highly recommend the Lobster Salad – it was phenomenal. One of the girls in our party knew the chef (weird. we know chefs all over town) and he kindly sent over some house specialties ie: Roasted Bone Marrow and the likes. After many champagne-St. Germain cocktails and some desert, we were ready to rock.
We made our way over to The Box – the usual hangout. Everyone has there regular hangout spot… ours happens to be The Box. We had a table with our names written all over it and continued our champagne fest. We are one glass deep when none other than Josh Locus walks up and tries to snatch our table. Sorry buddy – can’t compete with a table of fierce ladies. Clearly he got moved and the bottles continued to flow. We win. Anywaysssss, the point of this story is that The Box is still hot. Their Wednesday Box Beach Club parties are jumpin.
This Wednesday, they are throwing a Pajama Party (any excuse for nudity) in to the mix and DJ Messkid (my fav! *swoon*) will be on the decks. So of course I will be heading there after Canal Room and Greenhouse.
You must be in full theme attire in order to get in. No exceptions.
Girls: sexy lingerie, cute pjs, whatever you sleep in.
Guys: silk smoking jackets, matching pajama sets, boxers. Hugh Hef style.

My good friends, Vicio, will be headlining at the Canal Room this Wednesday, August 5th. Other acts include Danielle Parente, Neveroddoreven, and DJ Rob Flow. Vicio is one of the hottest up and coming acts of the season… come out and get on top of your music game. LEBLON Brazilian Rum will be providing some tasty concoctions for the night – ensuring you get your ass on the dance floor.
